Gerritt Vandersyde was a British artist who was born in Camberwell, London in 1898.  Although he signed his name Gerritt, his first name was actually Alfred.  He painted many pictures depicting children at play, but also some historical scenes as well.

"The joy and exuberance of childhood in the 1960's where the sun always shone, children played with total freedom outdoors and the world was somehow a more innocent and less complicated place." -Sharon's Sunlit Memories

This work of art was used on the cover of a children's magazine in 1970.

There is no better freedom than that of childhood.  This picture shows how childhood is free from the pressures of life and responsibilities.  I love that it represents how free they feel and happy.  This is a time in life that should be treasured, and a time that I am sure many of us wish we could go back to.
